What winter wonders does Cyprus have on offer for you?

Winter is coming, but fortunately for us in Cyprus, it’s far less harsh here than the rest of the world. With an average temperature of 19 degrees C during the colder months, Cyprus certainly puts a tropical twist on the season.

So if you’re looking to escape the wind and rain this year, here’s a few reasons to visit Cyprus in the winter months.

Tranquil surroundings

We recently discussed in a blog post the rewards you get from visiting Cyprus out of season, but the deeper into winter you go, the bigger the benefits.

The island’s many beaches are considerably quieter in the winter months when tourism peaks have subsided, leaving you with the perfect opportunity to explore this magnificent country without having to consciously avoid the crowds. The subtle change in seasons means you’ll feel as if you have the place all to yourself.

If you’re looking for more of a cultural experience, you’ll love visiting at this time of year. The local shops and restaurants are still open for business for residents, giving you an opportunity to live just like the locals do.

Instead of pandering to the needs of tourists, the townsfolk have an even more laid back attitude and you’ll really be able to immerse yourself into our way of life.

Our historical points of interest are also a lot less crowded out of season. You’ll be able to view such delights as the Kourion archaeological site that dates back to 200 BC. Understandably, tourists flock to this popular location in the summer to see where the Greeks once pitted fearsome gladiators against each other. Visiting this site out of season helps you to really imagine just what it was like back in the day, without being distracted by fellow onlookers.

A hint of winter

Perhaps you’re looking for a middle ground in terms of the season that you visit? Whilst the temperatures in Cyprus at this time of year are warm, they are much more manageable for those who aren’t fond of the scorching summer heat.

During the nights, you’ll need to throw on an extra layer for dining out, but that’s to be expected once the sun goes down. You’ll still be considerably warmer over here in the winter than you would be at home.

However, if you’re looking for the crisp hit of winter, you could visit the snowy peak of the Troodos Mountains. Many find it a hard feat to tackle when they’re ascending under the powerful rays of the summer sun, but in winter it becomes easier to scale this picturesque landmark.

The sun shines all year round in Cyprus and the smiles of the locals never fade. Whilst the tourism industry may not last all year, we’re always open to visitors and will welcome you with open arms.
